Web Summit 2023 participants chose Kinderpedia in PITCH start-up competition

Lisbon, 17.11.2023: Kinderpedia, the complete school management and communication solution for education institutions, built in Romania and recognised across the world for innovation and social impact, made it to the final of the WebSummit Pitch Competition and came up first in the public vote, gaining the support of 54% of the voters.

PITCH is Web Summit’s startup competition, bringing together the world’s leading startups for a live onstage battle. 105 of the 2,608 startups at this year’s event qualified for the three-day competition, which culminated with Kinderpedia, represented by co-founder Evelina Necula, being recognised as the public’s favourite and Inspira, Brazil-based legal software, winning the PITCH final award, granted by the judges. Web Summit 2023 brought together 70,236 people, and the companies redefining the tech industry.

“Bringing Kinderpedia to the Web Summit 2023 Central Stage, at Altice Arena Lisbon, one of the largest stages in Europe, has been a great accomplishment for our team and a great recognition for our innovative product and the amazing community of teachers and school leaders using it every day.”

"To be selected among the three finalists and gain so much public support is a great proof of the crucial role of education in further shaping our future. It is also a clear sign that people are seeking purposeful innovation, and they are truly looking to see technology used for good. We, at Kinderpedia, are more committed than ever to work with school leaders, investors, corporations, NGOs to further boost our social impact and shape students’ learning and wellbeing.”

Evelina Necula, Co-Founder and CMO, Kinderpedia

Each startup took the stage for a three minutes showcase, followed by three minutes of questions from the three judges of the final round: Juan Pablo Ortega, co-founder and CEO of Yuno, Rebecca Parsons, CTO of Thoughtworks, and Cristina Fonseca, Managing Partner at Indico Capital Partners. The people in the audience also had a say in the choice of winners. At the end of the live presentations, they had 15 minutes to vote for their favourite startup via the Web Summit app.

Out of the three finalist startups, Kinderpedia is the only one with a presence in Portugal. The company is represented on the Portuguese market for more than two years and the solution is already in use in more than 30 public and private educational institutions across the country.

This year’s Web Summit was a landmark event for Romania, with 50 Romanian companies present. This edition also marked the first Romanian National Pavilion at the event, organised by ARIES-TM and sponsored by the Romanian Agency for Trade and Investment and was complemented by a networking event organised by the Embassy of Romania to the Portuguese Republic.
